BARNSLEY Football Club agreed a deal with Crystal Palace to sign rising star Sam Togwell for an undisclosed fee in July 2006.
The 21-year-old joined Palace as a youngster and came up through the ranks to make his debut during the 2002/2003 campaign. He has made four first team appearances for The Eagles. Although Sam found first team opportunities limited at Selhurst Park, he excelled during loan spells with Oxford United and Northampton Town during the 2004/2005 campaign. He made five appearances for Oxford and then a further ten at Sixfields.
Sam joined Port Vale on loan last season and proved himself to be a excellent performer at League One level, putting in a goalscoring performance against The Reds at Vale Park in January 2006. He turned out 30 times for Vale, netting four goals.
Sam's move to Oakwell proved to be a shrewd piece of business as the midfielder impressed throughout the 2006/2007 campaign. He made 46 appearances, netting one goal.
Sam found himself in and out of the side throughout the 2007/2008 campaign and never managed to hold his place for longer than a couple of games. He struggled following the arrival of Anderson de Silva and the emergence of Bobby Hassell as a holding midfielder but still managed to clock up 27 games throughout the season.
