BARNSLEY signed FA Cup hero Luke Steele from West Bromwich Albion in May 2008.
Luke enjoyed a very successful loan spell at Oakwell during 2007/2008, helping the Reds to Wembley in the FA Cup Semi Final. He was named 'FA Cup Player Of The Round' following the Fifth Round victory at Anfield as well as helping secure Championship status with some fine displays.
Born in Peterborough, Luke came through the ranks at his home town club before earning a big move to Manchester United in 2002. He spent time on loan at Coventry City before joining West Brom in 2006. Luke returned to Coventry on loan for the remainder of the 2006/07 campaign. He joined up with the Reds ahead of the trip to Anfield in February 2008 and went on to make 17 first team appearances last season.
Luke enjoyed a real rollercoaster of a season at Oakwell during 2008/2009 after starting the campaign as first choice. He was dropped in late September and did not get another game until March when he got his chance at Reading and performed heroically well as the Reds escaped the drop.
First choice at Oakwell at the start of the 2009/2010 season only injury and suspension kept Luke from the side throughout the campaign. He responded with a string of outstanding displays in goal and some fine saves to help the side climb away from the bottom of the table and survive easily in the Championship with three matches to spare.
For the 2010/2011 season, Luke was ever-present for the Reds - appearing in every minute of all 46 League and two Cup matches. He narrowly missed out on scooping Barnsley FC's 'Player of the Year', as voted for by the fans.
