BARNSLEY Football Club moved into the transfer market to sign Northern Ireland international midfielder Grant McCann initally on loan from League One side Cheltenham Town in November 2006 and the deal was made permanent in early 2007.

Belfast-born, Grant came up through the ranks at West Ham United and made four substitute appearances for the Hammers. He enjoyed successful spells on loan with Livingston and Notts County before arriving at Whaddon Road, initially on a temporary basis in late 2000.

The 26-year-old turned out 33 times for the Robins during the 2000/2001 campaign and also enjoyed a second spell with the Club on loan in late 2002. The switch was made permanent in January 2003 and he has gone on to hit 40 goals from midfield in 179 games.

Grant has penned a deal which will keep him at Oakwell initially until the summer of 2009.

Grant quickly adapted to life in the Championship and went on to put in a string of impressive midfield displays. He netted a memorable goal on his Barnsley debut against Ipswich Town and went on to clock up 22 first team games.
