STRIKER Michael Boulding returned to Oakwell in the summer of 2010 after agreeing to play for free in a bid to earn a contract.

Born in Manchester, Michael started his professional career at Mansfield Town, netting 12 times in 74 matches before moving to Grimsby Town in 2001. He grabbed eleven goals in 39 games for the Mariners and earned a move into the top flight with Aston Villa 12 months later. Michael hit one goal in just two appearances and spent a seven match loan with Sheffield United before returning to Grimsby in January 2003.

His 17 goals in 42 matches at Blundell Park caught the eye of then Reds boss Gudjon Thordarson and he swapped Grimsby for Oakwell in February 2004. Ten goals in 38 games followed in a Barnsley shirt in League One as his quick feet and lightening pace endeared him to the Oakwell faithful. He spent time on loan at Cardiff City before joining Rotherham United on a free transfer in 2006.

Michael returned to Mansfield Town in August 2008 and bagged 30 goals in 93 games before signing for Bradford City two years later. He was back on the goal trail at Valley Parade, with 19 strikes in 72 games before leaving Valley Parade last summer.
