BARNSLEY Football Club are delighted to announce that midfielder Grant McCann has today completed his permanent switch to Oakwell from Cheltenham Town FC for a fee of £100,000.

The deal bringing Grant to Oakwell from Whaddon Road also includes a sell on clause.

Grant joined the Reds initially on loan in November 2006 and has made eight first team appearances. He has agreed a deal keeping him at Oakwell until the summer of 2009.

Belfast-born, Grant came up through the ranks at West Ham United and made four substitute appearances for the Hammers. He enjoyed successful spells on loan with Livingston and Notts County before arriving at Whaddon Road, initially on a temporary basis in late 2000.

The 26-year-old turned out 33 times for the Robins during the 2000/2001 campaign and also enjoyed a second spell with the Club on loan in late 2002. The switch was made permanent in January 2003 and he has gone on to hit 40 goals from midfield in 179 games.

The relevant paperwork has now been sent to the Football League and Football Association and the Reds are awaiting final confirmation of the transfer.
