CRYSTAL PALACE STATEMENT RE: SAM TOGWELL

Posted on: Thu 13 Jul 2006

FROM www.cpfc.co.uk:

As Crystal Palace were completing a deal to sign England Under 20 international goalkeeper Scott Flinders from Barnsley on Wednesday afternoon, another deal was agreed with the Tykes which saw defender Sam Togwell leave Selhurst Park.

An undisclosed fee has been agreed with the Yorkshire club and Togwell has agreed terms on a two year contract with Andy Ritchie's team.

21-year-old Togwell is a graduate of the Palace Academy and leaves SE25 following three years on the fringes of the first team, but only making a total of four appearances for the club whilst spending time on loan with the likes of Oxford United and Northampton Town.

He had enjoyed a successful loan spell with League One side Port Vale in the second half of last season, during which he scored a goal against Barnsley prior to their promotion through the play-offs.

Sam now links up with the Tykes and will be hoping to make an impression at Oakwell on their return to the Championship.
