BARNSLEY'S Player of the Year, Hugo Colace, has put pen to paper on a new deal keeping the Argentinean at Oakwell for another two seasons.

Hugo had a lot of offers from clubs here in England as well as Mexico, Italy, Russia and other countries, but in deciding to stay at Barnsley it is another endorsement that the Club intends to fulfill its potential.

Mark Robins was delighted to keep the influential player at Oakwell. "The contract has always been on the table and my hope was that he would eventually re-sign for us," said Mark.

"It is an important signing and the Club beat off serious competition for his services from clubs in Britain and around the World. For Hugo it was important for him to find out what other options were out there. With so much interest in him he needed to take time to think about it, as anyone would. The important thing is that he has come back to us and signed the contract that was on offer. He could have secured more financial rewards by going elsewhere, but he believes in what we are doing at Barnsley Football Club and he couldn't turn his back on the supporters that gave him last season's Player of the Year award."

We are assembling a very good side and Hugo is another piece of the jigsaw and it will help us strive to achieve our ambitions in being consistently more competitive each week as we endeavour to bring greater success to Barnsley Football Club."

Hugo told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "I am very pleased to have signed for Barnsley. I had many, many clubs wanting me to come to them, but after thinking long and hard I could not turn my back on the Club and the supporters, especially those who voted me their Player of the Year."

The paperwork has now been finalised and submitted to the Football Authorities for registration. Hugo will wear the number 20 shirt at Oakwell next season.
