BARNSLEY'S development squad got stuck into the blood and thunder of a South Yorkshire derby at Oakwell this afternoon as Rotherham United sneaked a win in a seven goal thriller.

The Reds gave run outs to first teamers David Preece, Rob Kozluk and Mounir El Haimour while youngsters Jordan Hibbert, Michael Coulson, Reuben Noble-Lazarus and Onome Sodje also featured from the start. The Millers had former Oakwell favourite Andy Liddell in their side.

Rotherham raced into a two-goal lead in the space of five frantic first half minutes when Ryan Taylor bagged a brace.

Barnsley did have the ball in the back of the net just before the break when Sodje did well to fashion himself an opening in the area and his deflected shot was heading for the bottom corner before Coulson, inexplicably, slid in to tap the ball into the goal. Coulson was yards offside and the goal was ruled out.

Sodje did get his name on the scoresheet moments later as he raced onto El Haimour's long pass before rounding the keeper and hammering the ball into an empty net.

Taylor put the game beyond the Reds in the second half with two more well taken goals but the Reds never gave up and Coulson dragged his side back into it with a good finish from El Haimour's pass.

Sodje then made it a tense end to the game in the final few moments with his second and the Reds' third.
