HALF TIME FROM THE CORAL WINDOWS STADIUM

Posted on: Sun 26 Jul 2009

BRADFORD CITY 0
BARNSLEY 1 (Foster 31)

A GOAL by Stephen Foster just after the half hour gave the Reds the lead in a keenly fought pre-season clash at Bradford City.

Foster rose highest to meet Hugo Colace's 31st minute corner and his header found its way past Jon McLaughlin and into the back of the net.

The Reds could have been in front inside seven minutes when Bobby Hassell's long throw gave Jamal Campbell-Ryce half a chance in the City area but the winger mistimed his shot and the ball flew wide.

In form striker Kayode Odejayi had his first sniff of a chance on 14 minutes as he let fly but his shot deflected through to McLaughlin off Daniel Bogdanovic. City broke well and ex-Red Michael Boulding had a great chance to open the scoring moments later but his shot drifted wide of the post with Luke Steele struggling to cover.

Boulding, who enjoyed a mixed spell at Oakwell, again had the better of the Reds defence on 24 minutes but this time Steele was in the right place to make a decent stop.

A foul on Martin Devaney gave the Reds a great chance two minutes later. Colace's free kick beat the wall and left the keeper stranded but flew just wide of the post.

Colace's set pieces were causing City all sorts of problems and the midfielders' delivery was spot on again on 31 minutes as his corner found Foster and the Reds' skipper made no mistake with a well placed header.
