BARNSLEY 3 (Bogdanovic 44, Odejayi 72, Sodje 82)
FERENCVAROS 2 (Kulcsar 57, Shaw 87)

ONOME Sodje announced his arrival at Oakwell in spectacular style with a fine late header to wrap up a win against Ferencvaros.

Barnsley kicked off their home pre-season campaign with the visit of Ferencvaros, the Hungarian giants promoted back to their top flight earlier this summer. It was a happy return to Oakwell for ex-Red Istvan Ferenczi, who lined up for the visitors.

It was a lively opening at Oakwell as both sides looked to get on the front foot in the first few minutes. Anderson de Silva did wonderfully well to tease the Ferencvaros defence on three minutes but his good play lacked a cutting edge before Bence Toth lashed one well, well wide at the other end moments later.

Martin Devaney then did well to get down the right hand side on seven minutes and cross but Daniel Bogdanovic found his path to goal well blocked. Trialist keeper David Preece had his first real test on ten minutes as he dove to grab Toth's 25 yard curler. Preece again had to be alert seconds later to snatch the ball away from Ferenczi's feet but the keeper did well to smother the danger.

Rob Kozluk's afternoon ended on 12 minuets as he limped out of the action with a slight injury. It looked nothing really serious to worry about but the full back was replaced by Luke Potter, who was eager to take his chance.

Jon Macken had a clear sight of goal on seconds later as the Ferencvaros defence stood off and waited. Macken got his low shot away but found Adam Holczer in fine form. Stephen Foster then flashed a header over the bar from Devaney's corner.

Bogdanovic did well to give Potter a shooting chance on 19 minutes but the youngster dragged his effort wide of the mark from 30 yards although it almost fell nicely for Macken but the Ferencvaros defence managed to clear.

Mounir El Haimour put one over the bar before Bobby Hassell's cross on 22 minutes dropped well in the area for Macken but the striker was denied a goal by Holczer's fine save. The chances kept on coming and it was Bogdanovic who turned provider on 24 minutes as his cross gave Anderson a free header but the Brazilian put his effort a foot or so wide.

The Reds were in on 29 minutes as Attila Dragoner's error let in Bogdanovic against Holczer but the Hungarian keeper did well to block away the danger. Potter again got forward well on 39 minutes to drill a shot goalward but Dragoner got across well to block the ball away for a corner. El Haimour then forced Holczer into a save two minutes later with a cross-come shot from 40 yards that almost dropped in at the near post.

Ferencvaros came to life on 43 minutes as Peter Poloskei broke down the left and fired in a great, inviting cross for Ferenczi to attack but Darren Moore was in the right place to make a goal-saving challenge.

Barnsley got their goal just a minute later when El Haimour found a yard of space down the left to cross and Bogdanovic beat his marker to glance the ball over Holczer and into the back of the net. It was a fortunate strike by the big Maltese striker but he notched his third goal of pre-season.

It was almost two just seconds later when Devaney's corner found Moore in space but the Reds defender was denied by the angle of post and bar.

Barnsley were almost further in front just six minutes after the restart when keeper Balasz Megyeri punched Hassell's cross into the path of El Haimour but the Frenchman lashed his shot high over the goal. Substitute Odejayi almost had an instant impact on the game on 56 minutes as he beat Megyeri to the ball but his header looped over the bar.

Ferencvaros snatched the leveller just seconds later when a snap shot from the edge of the area by David Kulcsar took a wicked deflection and crept into the back of the net past Preece.

Barnsley were almost back in front on 65 minutes when Reuben Noble-Lazarus' cross beat the Ferencvaros defence to give Onome Sodje a free header but the youngster planted his effort just wide of the mark.

Odejayi had Oakwell on its feet on 72 minutes as he forced his way onto Sodje's pass and drove into the area before finding a fine finish to curl the ball past Megyeri and into the far corner of the net.

It was almost three on 80 minutes when Noble-Lazarus drilled a low shot into the area that almost fell nicely for Anderson but the ball just beat the Brazilian and bounced clear.

Sodje grabbed his goal in spectacular style on 82 minutes as he beat his marker easily to meet Noble-Lazarus' fine cross and powered an unstoppable header into the back of the net from 12 yards.

Ferencvaros made a game of it in the closing moments when Pisanjuk broke down the right wing before crossing to give Paul Shaw a tap in from four yards out.
