REDS boss Simon Davey gave his thoughts after breaking a 60-odd year hoodoo and doing the double over Sheffield Wednesday.

Simon said: "We had our rest for two and a half weeks and that gave us the chance to bed people into the team. I thought we performed very well tonight.

"Our system caused them a lot of problems in the first half. Coming here to Sheffield Wednesday you know that they are going to have spells and they had them in the second half but we defended like Trojans out there. Our defending was fantastic at times and they were a tower of strength.

"We were breached once but Bobby Hassell was there. That's what they are paid for.

"It was a magnificent goal to win the game and we have worked all week on hitting teams on the break like that.

"We counter attacked Sheffield Wednesday well today and if we had picked the better option we could have been two or three up in the first half.

"It is nice for the club and great for the supporters. We have not given them a lot to cheer about this year so to win a Yorkshire derby and do the double here is great for them. We gave them a performance and a result that they can be proud of when they are making the journey back up the A61".
