SHEFFIELD FC 1 (Style 70)
BARNSLEY 4 (Heslop 73, 80; Bennett 85, 87)

SIMON Heslop grabbed a brace while youngster Steven Bennett announced his arrival at Oakwell with two spectacular strikes as the Reds coasted in the second half.

A largely inexperienced Barnsley XI created much the better chances against Unibond Division One South team Sheffield FC. Barnsley had a team made up of mainly Academy scholars although Andy Johnson, Sam Togwell and Robert Atkinson provided a strong spine to the side.

Alistair Taylor created a great opportunity for Barnsley on 12 minutes when his mazy run took him round three defenders and managed to find Jamil Adam in space but the young hotshot fired just wide with his shot.

Adam continued to create half chances as the Reds dominated play. Sheffield though could have grabbed the lead on 40 minutes when Vill Powell's tested Danny Free.

Barnsley were rocked on 70 minutes when Free was beaten by a free kick from 30 yards. The ball cannoned back off the bar and Nathan Styles was on hand to tap in from close range.

Sheffield's lead lasted all of three minutes before Simon Heslop smashed one in from 25 yards. Heslop was on target again on 80 minutes from the penalty spot after Kieron Scargill had been upended in the area.

Substitute Steven Bennett made the game safe on 85 minutes with a coolly taken lob from 15 yards after finding himself clean through on Martin Kearney.

Bennett was on the scoresheet again two minutes later and this time it was even sweeter for the youngster as he lashed one in from 25 yards.
