DAVE Bassett knows all about leading the Reds to Wembley after guiding his Oakwell outfit to the Play Off Final eight years ago.

Speaking exclusively to Reds Head of Media Rob Knowles for www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Dave said: "It is great for football to see Barnsley, Cardiff and West Brom in the Semi Finals. There has been a lot of interest in the FA Cup this season and I am sure the Barnsley fans will make it a day to remember.

"It is great for the town and great for the supporters. I was lucky enough to get to Wembley in the play offs when I was there and I saw first hand the excitement it can generate. I am sure it will be the same this time around. Getting to Wembley will have given everybody in Barnsley a massive lift. We now have four different teams in the semi finals and hopefully it will be an exciting weekend.

"I think it has brought back the interest to the FA Cup especially after the rubbish we had in the final last season. So many big clubs have gone out and beaten each other this season that it may not happen again. It has stimulated the whole country and we should have a great final this time around no matter which two teams get in there.

"The FA Cup has had a great buzz about it and it has really been a breath of fresh air. It might not happen again. When you look at it Manchester United and Chelsea had a great chance in the quarters but blew it.

"Barnsley really deserve to be in the Semi Final and probably should have the cup after beating Liverpool and Chelsea. Those results were brilliant and it was excellent for the competition. They now have something magical to look forward to.

"I love the FA Cup. I have been to the Semi Final with Sheffield United but we lost out to Wednesday and it is a hard defeat to take at that stage. Mind you I would rather lose in the Semi Final than be dumped out in the third round any day.

"It is going to be great and I cannot wait. I am doing some work for the radio so I will be at Wembley on Sunday. Hopefully we should have a exciting game with lots of goalmouth action. It has to be better than last year's final!!!!"

Dave took over at Oakwell in May 1999. Twelve months later he led the Reds to Wembley for the 2000 Division One Play Off Final.
He left the Club in December 2000.
