BARNSLEY'S reserves were held to a disappointing goalless draw against Grimsby Town at Oakwell this afternoon.
In tough conditions and on a heavy pitch, both sides struggled to create much although the visitors went closest to breaking the deadlock.
The Mariners went closest to winning the game in the first half as Martin Butler then got the wrong side of the Reds defence on 27 minutes but blazed wide with only Kyle Letheren to beat. Andy Taylor managed to break clean through on the half hour but shot woefully wide of the far post with only the Welsh keeper in his way. Taylor got in again as he easily raced through the heart of the defence but his path to goal was well blocked by Letheren's outstanding save.
Barnsley's clear chances were few and far between although Jacob White thought he had scored on 36 minutes as he let fly from distance but his low drive clipped the foot of the post and flew wide.
