FULL TIME FROM BEDFORD TERRACE
HARTLEPOOL UNITED 2 (Rae, Clark)
BARNSLEY 0
BARNSLEY'S reserves slipped to their second defeat of the season against Hartlepool United.
Hartlepool started strongly with David Foley forcing Kyle Letheren into action early on before Michael Maidens and Michael Rae both went close.
Barnsley responded with in-form youngster Jamal Adam forcing keeper Scott Allison into a low save with a shot from just inside the area.
Pools were in front on 32 minutes after Craig Gott did well down the right to get his cross over and Rae was in the right place to head past Letheren at the back post.
Rae and Stephen Turnbull could have doubled the home side's advantage in the dying stages of the half.
Hartlepool got their second just after the break when Ben Clark started and finished a great flowing move. The defender burst forward before finding space in the area to meet Rae's cross.
Barnsley almost pulled one back when Rhys Meynell found space inside the area but Allison managed to claw away his point blank effort.
