LIVE FROM OAKWELL STADIUM

BARNSLEY 1 (Hume 76)
BLACKPOOL 0

SUPER sub Iain Hume snatched all three points for the Reds and it was a thoroughly deserved win for Mark Robins' side.

Reds manager Mark Robins made one change to the side that beat Cardiff City last time out with on loan defender Ryan Shotton returning to the starting eleven after serving his four match ban. Shotton came into the heart of the Barnsley defence at the expense of Luke Potter. Iain Hume and Emil Hallfredsson were back on the bench after their recent injury problems.

The first sight of goal came inside three minutes as Filipe Teixeira's quick feet beat two Blackpool defenders before prodding the ball forward but Nathan Doyle just could not reach his pass and it skipped through to Matt Gilks.

Barnsley were all over Blackpool from the start and looked to swamp the Seasiders' fluid passing game. Teixeira almost got one on target on 14 minutes as he turned well in the area but crashed a shot against the first defender.

Dickinson then felt he should have done better just moments later as he rose to meet Adam Hammill's corner but the full back planted a header well wide of the goal. Teixeira then flashed one wide of the target from 30 yards after finding space in the Blackpool half again.

The Reds nullified Pool in the opening exchanges with the only real chances falling to the home side. Teixeira again let fly from distance on 26 minutes but his effort flew high over the bar. A Bobby Hassell free kick almost caught out Blackpool on 33 minutes as Stephen Foster rose unmarked but the Reds' skipper could not direct his glancing header goalward.

Foster again had the better of the Blackpool defence three minutes later as he nodded another Hassell free kick down into the six yard box but Shotton could not turn it goalward. Blackpool were rocking on 38 minutes as Teixeira tricked and shot in the area but Stephen Crainey was in the way of his effort.

The little Portuguese winger was in the thick of it again seconds later as he crashed to the ground under Evatt's challenge right on the edge of the box. Carl Dickinson brought a save from Gilks with the free kick.

Blackpool offered absolutely nothing as a goal threat in the opening half and the Reds defended magnificently to repel whatever the visitors could throw at them in the final third. Luke Steele was a virtual spectator.

Gilks was left stranded on 44 minutes as Dickinson broke to the byline to fizz the ball across the face of goal but there was a little too much on his cross for the onrushing Barnsley attack.

A foul by Evatt on Jon Macken gave the Reds another half chance right in the final minute of the half. Dickinson rifled the free kick past the wall but into a crowded penalty area and the chance went begging.

The Reds were on the front foot again in the opening stages of the second half and Hammill could have done better on 48 minutes as he found himself through on goal after Bogdanovic had threaded the ball past the Blackpool defence. Hammill saw his low shot kicked away by Gilks and Teixeira was unable to turn the rebound goalward.

Hammill again found himself free seconds later as Hugo Colace's cross dropped at the far post but the winger wasted too much time bringing the ball down and his shot was well blocked away.

Barnsley were in total control and Blackpool's frustrations boiled over on 55 minutes when Brett Ormerod scythed through Teixeira on the touch line to earn a yellow card. Barnsley were almost through again on 59 minutes when Macken fed Bogdanovic but the Maltese striker could not return the favour and his cross skipped through to Gilks.

Blackpool finally created a chance on 61 minutes as Southern let one go from 30 yards but his effort flew well, well wide of the target. Hammill then burst well in the Blackpool half and blasted the ball goalward on 62 minutes but his effort was straight at a relieved Gilks.

The visitors had half a sight of goal again on 65 minutes when Ben Burgess rose to meet David Vaughan's deep corner but his header was never going to trouble Steele.

Steele made his first real save of the afternoon on 71 minutes as he dove to grab Stephen Dobbie's low drive. It was a comfortable stop for the underworked Barnsley keeper. Steele then did well to hold Alex Baptite's long ranger two minutes later before taking a comfortable catch from Adam on 75 minutes.

Barnsley finally got the goal they deserved on 76 minutes as Macken knocked Hassell's free kick into the path of Iain Hume and the substitute scrambled it past Gilks from close range. It was just about his first touch.

Hume was inches away from a second on 79 minutes as he attacked Macken's cross at the near post but could not turn the ball goalward under pressure. Hammill then went close to a goal against his former club three minutes later after cutting past Baptiste in the area before dragging a low shot wide of the far post.

Hume and Teixeira combined brilliantly to open up Blackpool on 88 minutes and give Macken a chance but the striker blazed well wide from the edge of the area.

Blackpool threw everything forward but a mistake by Gilks almost gifted Colace a second in stoppage time as the midfielder showed tremendous skill to volley the ball back towards goal from the half way line. It crept inches wide.

Macken then did well seconds later to break to the byline and cross but the ball was just too high for Hammill and his glancing header flew wide of the mark.
