REDS Academy Manager Ronnie Branson has admitted his young side were beaten by a better team as Manchester City ran out winners at Oakwell last weekend.

Ronnie told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "We lost the game 6-1 against a very, very good Manchester City side. It is very hard to take any positives from a result like that at all. We were level at half time after a good first half. We were very workmanlike in the opening 45 minutes and Jamil Adam put us in front with a well-rehearsed free kick.

"City grabbed an equaliser five minutes before the break and then had a real purple patch just after the interval where they put three past us. It was game over really then.

"It is hard to take anything from the game really and you could see why Manchester City are the current FA Youth Cup holders and how they hit nine past Middlesbrough last weekend. Sometimes you just have to hold you hands up and say that you were beaten by a better team.

"We will work our socks off this week to get the lads back up and ready to face Sheffield United here on Saturday.

"We started the game with nine first years in and Reuben (Noble-Lazarus) so we did have a very young side out against a City team full of senior Academy players. All our lads will be able to play for us next season. We were workmanlike in the first half but fell away after the break".
