Reds Manager Danny Wilson has labelled Saturday’s penultimate match against Middlesbrough on Saturday as the ‘last’ of the season.
“We are approaching this game as one game left and there's nothing after that,” said Wilson, whose side then face Queens Park Rangers at Oakwell the following Saturday.
“We can't go there and be so gung-ho that we are two goals down before we can draw breath.
“You can't add any more hype to the game.
“It's going to be a gamble in one or two areas but it'll be a calculated gamble.
“Gambling has to be calculated because you're playing against a high quality team with high quality players and if you don't respect them they'll hurt you.
“We're not fearful of going up there whatsoever.
“They (Boro) are beatable. That's the beautiful thing of it. It's a finely tuned game this one and we are more than capable of getting something from.”
Wilson is waiting late to see who will be involved, as Kelvin Etuhu (ankle), Marcus Pedersen (hamstring), Ryan McLaughlin (hamstring) and Jack Hunt (hamstring) all battle injury.
“It's too early to say and I'm not trying to be clever,” said Wilson of his latest team news. “We are giving everybody the chance to throw their hat in the ring tomorrow.
“I'm quite optimistic that we will have one or two added to the squad but I'm not sure on who at this moment in time.”
The Reds must win and hope results elsewhere go their way if they stand a chance at all of surviving the drop to League One.
“We have to make sure we are as dogged and determined to keep us in the game as we are when we are trying to win it,” added Wilson.
“We are playing against a very strong and full strength team against Middlesbrough.
“Confidence has been hit but sometimes you don't get a second chance but we have. We are still in there which is a positive. We have to try and grab it with both hands.
“Mental ability is part of any sportsman if it's in this position now or winning a title.
“It's no different with us. One or two questions will be asked but you've got to have the capacity to deal with it.
“We have to be strong enough to deal with it.
“If we don't leave anything behind, that's all we could ask of the players which is what we do anyway.”
The Barnsley boss is hoping to repay the incredible support given to him and his team by the fans by making the fight go down to the final day – at home to QPR.
“The fans have been absolutely brilliant,” he said. “Should we win on Saturday and bring the final throws to Saturday the fans will be unbelievable. We'll leave nothing in the dressing room, we'll put everything on the line for them.”
