Wilson Hopeful 'Experienced' Players Will Return

29 January 2015

Reds boss Danny Wilson met with the press ahead of his side's home match with Port Vale on Saturday.

The Barnsley Manager is hopeful of adding a couple of his more experienced players to the starting line-up for the visit of the Valiants.

"We're hoping we'll have one or two back," said Wilson. "Martin Cranie has trained this morning so we're hoping he gets no reaction to that.

"Peter Ramage again, he missed the game as a precaution at the weekend, he'll be available this weekend.

"We'll be adding one or two more senior players to the squad.

"I'm hoping he'll (Peter Ramage) will be ready to start, but we'll have to wait and see.

"Sam is getting a lot closer than he has been this last few weeks, obviously. The injury's such a concern because you don't know at this stage whether you can push him a bit further. We're really in the hands of the players and we're hoping he's not too far away.

"James (Bailey) is available to us. He played for the Under 21s on Monday and came off with a bit of a tight hamstring but we're hoping he'll be okay."

Saturday's visitors Port Vale sit 12th in the table just two points off the play-offs, and Wilson added, "There's nothing between any of the teams when you take away the top three or four. They've had a couple of good wins and it's propelled them into the position outside the top six. They'll be very confident.

"It's a tough game and it's a big game against Port Vale and they think they've got a good chance and rightly so. One or two won't agree with me but they'll be just as confident of getting in there just like any other team, but we're confident we can beat them."

With seven games in February on the horizon, the Reds boss is focusing on this weekend's clash against Vale but the wait isn't long for Oldham's trip to Oakwell on Tuesday night.

"We've go to look at Port Vale," continued Wilson. "We'll try and put a very good performance in and it's important we come away with three points. Then we'll look at the Oldham game after that. If you look at the big picture, it's a tall order for any team to have that fixture glut. The players will tell you themselves that they'd rather play games than train anyway. We'll look at Port Vale and hopefully get some confidence out of that and take it into the Oldham one."
