Wabara on Swindon Stunner

12 September 2015

After scoring his wonder goal against Swindon Town, Reece Wabara gave his reaction to the press.

The defender’s 30-yard strike was his first for the club and it was certainly one to remember.

“It was a little bobbling ball from Conor, I just had to get it out of my feet and shoot, the rest is history,” said the right-back. “I was waiting for the ‘keeper to get a touch but when it hit the back of the net I was buzzing.

“But first and foremost, my job is to defend. If I can chip in with some goals and assists, hopefully that will go a long way.

“Momentum in football goes a long way, as does confidence going in 2-1 up at half-time. We took it into the second-half and scored two more goals which was brilliant.”

Wabara acknowledged League One is a very demanding division and feels the Reds can continue to develop if they become settled quickly.

“We’ve got to mature and mature fast,” he added. “We have a lot of ability but we can’t be naïve because this league is very difficult. We need to learn to mix it up but we have ability and that’s a very good base to have.

“We’ve got a win today against a very good team at that and hopefully we can take that into the Blackpool game and start a run.”

A promotion challenge is expected from the Tykes and Reece said it would be “a disservice to ourselves,” if Barnsley fail to get promoted.

“Every game we go into, the manager says we’ve got to win and it’s that simple. We want to get promoted and we demand the most of ourselves.”
