Reds midfielder Josh Scowen spoke to the media ahead of this weekend’s match against Colchester United.
Scowen was asked about securing a Play-Off position with the Reds, but wants his teammates to remain solely focused on their own results and not worry what other teams do.
Scowen explained, “If the results go our way we’ll be in there. But, we can’t look at it like that, we have a job to do on Saturday to get the three points then after that we’ll look at where we are. Right now we have two big games and we’re looking to win both if we can.
“It’s nice that’s it is in our hands, obviously if we win both we’re guaranteed to be in there. But like I said, it’s two tough games. Wigan are top of the league and Colchester have nothing to play for which could work against us. The boys are preparing well and we’ll go into both games thinking we can win.
“We’ll approach it the same way we’ve approached every game, which is thinking we can go in there and win.” He continued. “Obviously coming off the game against Sheffield United with a clean sheet, it’s something to build on.”
The point the Reds picked up against Sheffield United at the weekend pushed Scowen and his side up one place into the Play-Off positions, whereas the 1-1 draw against The Blades in November meant the Reds went bottom.
“We’ve come a long way.” Said Scowen. “The boys have been fantastic. Obviously I got injured earlier in the season but the boys did fantastic to dig us out and push on to where we are now. The season isn’t over yet, we’ve got two massive games and hopefully we can get six out of six points.”
Since his injury, Scowen has had to compete with Josh Brownhill and Conor Hourihane for his position back in central midfield, but recently he has been plying his trade at right-back.
“It’s nice to be playing again to be honest, no matter where it is.” He stated. “I’ve played three and kept three clean sheets. It’s something to build on going into Saturday, if we can keep another then the Adam Hammills and Sam Winnalls can get the goals for us.
“If I’m still playing full-back I’ll still be happy and playing with a smile on my face.”
