Head of Academy Recruitment Bobby Hassell has played his first significant role on the recruitment front as Rhys Dolan joins the Club from Ilkeston Town.
The 17-year-old teams up with the Reds after Barnsley agreed a fee with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier side.
An attack-minded left-back, Dolan has impressed in the Robins' Academy and first team - signing for the Reds until June 2018.
Dolan starred for Ilkeston Under 18s in their terrific FA Youth Cup run which ended in the Third Round against Newcastle after a closely-fought game that ended 3-2.
Speaking to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Rhys said, "I'm delighted to sign for the Club. It's a very exciting opportunity and I can't wait to get going.
"I'd like to thank everyone at Ilkeston Town who have helped me to where I am so far."
Reds Head Coach Lee Johnson added, “It’s great news to have young Rhys on board and it’s also great to see our hard work in recruiting the best young talent out there come to fruition.
“Rhys is a good defender and loves to get forward, he has good potential and we’re looking forward to him working hard under Paul Heckingbottom and Martin Devaney in our Under 21s.”
