Reserves: Reds 2 Crewe Alexandra 2

23 December 2014

Barnsley 2 (Templeton 12, Boakye-Yiadom 90+4)
Crewe 2  (Kearns 19, Brown 65)

Four goals were shared on the Oakwell Academy pitch between the Reds and Crewe Alexandra this afternoon.

It took a late leveller, however, for Barnsley to claim a point as Nana Boakye-Yiadom bundled home in stoppage time.

After a bright start the Reds took the lead on 12 minutes when Rhys Oates set Matty Templeton on his way in the Crewe half and he finished well from inside the area.

Less than seven minutes later the visitors restored parity as Joe Kearns took advantage of a free far post to nod home a deep cross.

The equaliser came just moments after Brad Abbott saw a shot deflected and then saved by Matthews in the Alex goal.

After the break, the tempo slowed and it was Crewe who once again found space at the far stick on 65 minutes. This time Brown had timed his run well and he volleyed into the far corner from five yards with Dibble's hand finding the effort too strong.

Barnsley enjoyed plenty of chances but no joy in front of goal in the second half, not at least until the 94th minute. After considerable pressure on the Alex goal, Smith launched a hopeful ball into the box that Boakye-Yiadom did well to control before scrambling under the 'keeper from the edge of the six-yard box.

The Reds' second string are next in action at Crewe on Monday 12th January, 2015, kicking off at 1pm.

Reds team: Dibble, Jeffs (Rogerson 63), Smith, Cowgill, Gooda, Abbott, Digby, Maris, Templeton (Alton 79), Boakye-Yiadom, Oates.
Subs not used: Walton, Goodwin.
