‘Reds In The Community’ Day This Saturday!

26 November 2015

Activities planned to celebrate the work of our Oakwell based charity.

We are proud to announce that Saturday’s game against Sheffield United has been designated as our ‘Reds in the Community’ day! Throughout the afternoon we’ll be celebrating and raising awareness of RITC and the work done by the charity throughout the year to support the local community. In particular there will be a lap of honour on the pitch at half time with participants from areas of the Reds in the Community programme taking part to showcase the work of the charity.

Reds in the Community (formerly known as the Barnsley FC Community Trust) is a registered charity that uses the power of football and Barnsley Football Club to engage and improve the lives of local people. Professional football clubs are at the heart of their communities, not just geographically but more importantly emotionally. They have a unique connection and draw that enables them to reach further and wider than others. This provides a great opportunity and responsibility to make a difference. ‘RITC’ aims to tackle the borough’s greater goals by inspiring local people through a range of activities and projects within four key themes;

• Education
• Health
• Social Inclusion
• Sports Participation

It is estimated that over 1500 people each week are directly engaged in our activities.

Barnsley Football Club was founded in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy primarily as a way to use sport to engender moral values and forge closer contact with local people. This very ethos lives on today through the work of the charity.
