Reds 0 Boro 4: Lee Johnson's Reaction

29 July 2015

Reds Head Coach Lee Johnson gave his reaction following his side's 4-0 defeat in their penultimate pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough.

All the goals came in the second half after a reasonably comfortable opening period, in which Johnson's side looked competitive against their Championship opposition.

"I was well pleased with the game," said Johnson. "I thought it was brilliant. We got the lessons that we needed and we did all right in patches.

"It showed what we already know but why I was pleased, but not pleased with the defeat, is we know that they (Boro) are the Premier League's 23rd team, if you like.

"You have to concentrate really hard against them and you could see with the third and fourth goal we lost our concentration.

"There were some good lessons for us. I thought we looked quite compact and solid in the first half, so I was pleased with that. We had a couple of chances but didn't really have the belief in ourselves in the first half to maybe go and produce a couple of better chances when we got in some good areas.

"Generally, I'm delighted with it as an exercise but people have got to remember - don't panic because we've got some good players to come back into that.

"Obviously I wanted to win the game but I was delighted with it as an exercise.

"I'll be expecting to put a slightly different team out and perform that bit better against Huddersfield on Saturday."
