Head Coach

Barnsley boy Paul Heckingbottom was appointed Head Coach of his boyhood team on June 15th, 2016, signing a 12-month rolling contract.

Paul made 53 appearances for the Reds from January 2006 - when he helped the side that won the League One Play-Offs on penalties (one of which he scored) against Swansea at the Millennium Stadium in May 2006.

The former left-back also featured for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday - with whom he also won promotion via the League One Play-Offs - Norwich City, Bradford and Darlington.

Having returned to Oakwell as Under 18s Coach, he took charge of the Under 21s during the 2012/13 season and then progressed to become Senior Development Coach.

In February 2016 after Lee Johnson left the Reds for Bristol City, Heckingbottom became Caretaker boss and oversaw the club's most successful season for decades.

Twice 'Hecky' was nominated for the Manager of the Month awards

At Wembley he steered Barnsley to a 3-2 win over Oxford in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final and would return to the famous arch 58 days later in the League One Play-Off Final.

Ten years on from Heckingbottom's success in the same Final as a player, his side coasted past Millwall 3-1 to return to the second tier of English football.
