One Game at a Time - Hourihane

2 March 2016

After the Reds’ 2-0 success over Coventry City, midfielder Conor Hourihane gave his thoughts on the game to the media.

Both the hosts’ goals stemmed from Hourihane’s set-plays and he feels that the run the Reds are on has been another major boost to the side.

He said: “It was obviously a good result and it’s good to go level on points with them (Coventry). It was a good 2-0 win with the clean sheet as well especially in the second half with their counter-attack but it was pleasing.

“We’re on a good run but like the old cliché we’re taking things one game at a time and everything we’re doing at the minute is just a bonus and hopefully we can carry that on against Walsall.”

The last time the two sides met, Barnsley were languishing at the foot of League One while the Sky Blues were top of the division.

Hourihane reflected on how the side have progressed in their last 14 league games, moving up to seventh place in the table, outside the play-offs only on goal difference.

“It’s a good run that we’re on at the minute given the run we were on earlier in the season but we’ve put in a lot of work on the training ground to turn that around.

“At the minute things are going for us but you get the wins that you feel you deserve in this league,” he added.

“Eight to ten weeks ago we were rock bottom of the league but we’ll carry on taking it one game at a time and hope it continues.”

Barnsley found themselves in a similar position last year but their promotion push faded away.

Hourihane asserted that the prospects of making the play-offs have not crossed the minds of the players and they are solely focused on beating Walsall this weekend.

He added: “Last year there was some talk about it but this year inside our dressing room there has been no talk about it whatsoever.

“I think we picked it up quickly - quicker than a lot of people would have thought - but the spirit around the camp is high and we appear to be gelling at the right time given all the changes we had in the summer.

"No one is getting carried away in the dressing room at the moment given the run we were on earlier this season, there's just lots of happy faces in the dressing room."
