Reds new boy Alfie Mawson is chomping at the bit to get going with his new side, after signing a three-year deal at Oakwell yesterday.
The talented centre-half joins Barnsley from Brentford, but rose to prominence during his 50-appearance season at Wycombe Wanderers last term.
"I had quite a good season on loan at Wycombe and got quite a few accolades. It was different for me because I've never had that appreciation before. It made me more confident and it was a massive stepping stone in, hopefully, a long career.
"This year I'm going to have to step it up a notch."
Mawson had a number of clubs after his signature, following a flourishing season at Adams Park, but revealed there was only one club for the defender after meeting Head Coach Lee Johnson.
"What persuaded me massively was the gaffer," added Mawson. "It's the way he wants to develop me, individually. I've met a few managers and had good conversations but the gaffer had a great attention to detail. I just thought 'this fella wants to work with me.'
"I just want to come and play some nice football. I can pass and come out with the ball.
"I've enjoyed the surroundings. I think it's brilliant that the training ground is on site and that will get the best out of me."
