Forward Snubs Others For Reds

Barnsley Football Club has beaten a host of Clubs to secure the signature of Scottish Cup winner Marley Watkins on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old was hot property after a remarkable season with Inverness Caledonian Thistle - and just days after netting in their 2-1 Cup Final win over Falkirk - Head Coach Lee Johnson convinced the forward to sign on the dotted line at Oakwell.

The hardworking forward, who is capable of playing on the wing or up front, struck nine goals whilst providing 16 assists for Inverness and is delighted at the prospect of playing under Lee Johnson and at Oakwell, turning down lucrative offers elsewhere to become a Red.

"I'm delighted," said Watkins. "I had a good, positive meeting with Lee Johnson and I was really impressed with what he had to say and where he wants to go.

"I'm excited to be a part of it."

Watkins has barely had time to put his Winner's medal on display as he joins Lee Johnson's revolution this summer.

"It was awesome to score in a final," he added. "It was a great way to end and I hold Inverness close to my heart.

"I just want to come to England and prove myself down here then aims high as possible. I want to be a success with Barnsley."
