Lee Johnson's Fleetwood Reaction

24 October 2015

Barnsley Head Coach Lee Johnson spoke to the press after seeing his side fall to a 1-0 defeat against Fleetwood Town.

“The first half we didn’t do enough.” said Johnson. “We didn’t look confident on the ball, and didn’t have enough inter-play. We were trying to do the right things but the quality just wasn’t there.

“Second half I had to change something, so we went a bit more direct, but we just didn’t win enough battles. We huffed and we puffed but we didn’t do our thing. I’m not hiding from it.”

Johnson was disappointed to see his side lose twice in a week, and he explained that the squad was suffering from the injuries to key players.

“We have at least four big players out through injuries,” explained Johnson. “When you take them out we look lightweight. They need to come back quickly and we might just have to push them harder now.

“We’ve got the hope of players coming back into the group and I still believe our best eleven is a match for anybody.”

Johnson was keen to ensure his team knew what was required of them and that they need to turn their form round quickly to progress up the league.

“The lads have got to do it themselves now. It’s about the lads internal desire to be the best they can be and we’ve got players that can do that, but unfortunately they haven’t been able to get that out on the pitch today for whatever reason.”

The Reds Head Coach explained that this was the lowest part of his managerial career but he had full belief in his squad to turn the recent run of form around.

“Both sides today looked void of confidence,” said Johnson. “We’re a big club and we need to deal with the high expectations, hopefully now we’ll dig deep. We can come through this and we will be stronger for it.”
