Lee Johnson's Chesterfield Reaction

8 August 2015

Reds Head Coach Lee Johnson gave his thoughts on today's opening day defeat at Chesterfield.

"I thought we started well," said Johnson. "We looked slick on the counter attack. We got pegged back, once we got pegged back a few went down like dominoes.

"I thought our back three were superb.

"We could have had a couple ourselves on the break. Over the course of 90 minutes, we did look like we capitulated.

"The second and third goal are really poor goals for us to concede. First one we lose our marker and the second out, our full-back heads it straight back into the danger area.

"I thought our fans were excellent. Even 3-1 down they were still singing and right behind the boys. Even after the game they showed the boys.

"We have to grow up very quickly because this league is a tough league.

"We certainly have some improvements to make.

"There were some good parts to it but just not enough. We gave up too much space wide. That is one of the risks of the formation. We had to move Josh out of the middle of the park and he's done the best he could.

"I was forced into changing the shape today, which wasn't ideal."

Johnson also confirmed youngster James Bree missed out through a slight concern over his groin.

The Head Coach's reaction in full will be available to watch on Barnsley PlayerHD later this evening.
