Reds Manager Danny Wilson insists tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with York City is a high priority for his team this season.
The Minstermen arrive at Oakwell for a 7:45pm kick-off tonight, and the Reds haven't taken part in the competition since an early exit at home to Doncaster Rovers in 2005.
"It’ll be a high priority," said Wilson. "I’ve got no doubt about it that we want to go out there and we want to win the game. We want a good run in the Cup. When you’ve got an inexperienced side, all of these are great experiences for them and they all add up.
"We’ll go against York who are managed by an old friend of mine in Nigel Worthington. He’s done remarkably well up there and got a very good side together. They’ll want to continue in the Cup so we’ll put a team out that’s fitting to the game. We want to win it and we’ll put out the strongest team that we can.
"We’ve got four tournaments to get to Wembley including the Play-Offs and one’s gone, so let’s cling on to the others as long as we can."
The Barnsley boss is without midfielder Keith Treacy, who limped off from Saturday's 1-1 draw at Yeovil following a groin strain, and youngster George Smith who is still recovering from a broken toe. The game may also prove too early for midfielder James Bailey (hamstring).
