Johnson: South Yorkshire Derby is Good Timing

26 November 2015

An excited and fired-up Lee Johnson spoke to the press this morning ahead of this weekend’s South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United.

The Reds Head Coach said, “There would be no better feeling than winning this Saturday.”

Ahead of the match and following on from Tuesday’s game against Peterborough United, Johnson gave an update on team news for the match against The Blades.

“Lloyd Isgrove - we are hopeful will be all right.” said Johnson. “It’s one of those where it takes a couple of days to settle down and we see how he is.

“Ryan Williams is back and that’s a massive boost. It’s a boost for the player, a boost for us, a boost for the medical staff and we’re looking forward to getting him out there. He’s so enthusiastic in his running and style of play, he’ll definitely create chances for strikers.

“We have no other injury issues. We’ve got the suspension of Kevin Long though which is disappointing.”

Moving on to the match against Sheffield United, Johnson explained his feelings about the fixture and the rivalry.

“It’s a massive game and a great game. It is good timing and one that we want to make sure we show our recent performances to our home fans. Again we were disappointed Tuesday we thought we had done well enough to win never mind a point.

“Over the last four games we’ve had over 70 shots. That’s a positive sign that we’re becoming the attacking force we thought we could be.

“With the players we’ve got at our disposal we think we can cause Sheffield united problems.

“I’m surprised by both teams.” Continued Johnson. “Surprised where we are and they are (in the league). Football is not played on paper though! You have to turn up. Neither team will be happy how they’re going at the moment, but this is a game that can right a lot of wrongs.

“Tomorrow we’ll talk through with the players exactly what’s required on the day. I enjoy the early kick-offs, there’s less waiting around and less time to get nervous!”
