Hourihane Happy With Hull Display

28 July 2014

Reds midfielder Conor Hourihane insists the team have taken a great boost in confidence after drawing 1-1 against Hull City at the weekend.

The former Plymouth captain, who joined the Reds as Danny Wilson’s second summer signing, notched the leveller in the second half against last spring’s FA Cup Finalists.

“It was very enjoyable,” said Hourihane. “Hull are a very good side. We were pleased to get a draw and I was pleased to get a goal.

“They’ve got a Europa league match this week, so they were using this game as a workout for that. It was nice to see them put a strong team out so we could test ourselves against their top players.

“I’m very happy to get my first goal, hopefully it’s the first of many.”

Hourihane was joined by new signings James Bailey, Sam Winnall and Ross Turnbull for the Reds’ first home clash of pre-season against the Tigers.

“Slowly but surely it’s taking shape nicely,” added the 23-year-old of the squad. “By the time Crawley comes we’ll have a good squad. We’ll be pushing on and hoping for a good start. Promotion is what everyone is aiming for so hopefully we’ll be in the mix.

“There’s a good age group in the squad. We’ve got a good squad that’s taking shape nicely and I’m sure we’ll do alright next year.

“We tested ourselves against a good Hull team and came away with a draw so it was a good confidence-booster for us.

“I’m feeling good. Fitness-wise I think I’m alright. I can top up my sharpness and touches of the football over the next week or so.”
