Heading into this weekend’s clash with Crewe Alexandra, winger Kadeem Harris assessed the tough test that faces the Reds.
The winger feels that this weekend’s game is another one of huge importance for Barnsley in order to gain some consistency.
Kadeem said: “As soon as we start beating the bottom teams we’ll fly up the league. We seem to do well against the teams at the top but struggle against those at the bottom and I can’t put my finger on why.
“It’s a big one for us on Saturday, we need to make most of it and capitalise on where they are in the league.
“The fans always expect the team to get a result and it’s no different this weekend. We have to go out there, do what we know we can and we trust in ourselves to get the three points.”
Since arriving on loan from Cardiff City, Harris has tried to cement a spot on the flank and is enjoying playing his football at Oakwell.
“I think going well so far,” he added. “We have a good bunch of lads here, great coaching staff and a great manager. I’m playing week in week out, we just need to get wins under our belt.
“I think we have the boys here to do it, there’s no doubt we’ll climb up the league and we should with the players we’ve got and with more consistency we’ll be flying.”
With one of the youngest squads in the division fans have criticised the players for their inexperience, a point Harris was quick to put to bed.
“As season goes on we’ll get rid of that and the more experience player get here the better we do, won’t take long.
“We’ll be flying by Christmas at the latest, hopefully before to give us a good head start for the second half of the season.
Head Coach Lee Johnson is considered as “one of the boys” by Harris, but he and the players still hold him in high regard.
“Lee is like an older brother but we all have respect for him," he added. "He’s a good manager, everyone comfortable around him and I’m enjoying working with him.
“I said to one of lads the other day he’s one of the best managers I’ve ever worked with quite a few so that’s a big compliment.
Harris’ parents make the trips to come and watch him play every week and the winger is thankful for their support.
“When I’m playing, it’s like it’s not just me on the pitch, it’s as though they are there with me. They are my biggest critics and you need that.
Some parents tell their kids ‘well done’ every game they play but mine aren’t like that,” he quipped. “That’s made me the player I am today, I’m excited for the future and so are they.”
