Flitcroft On Doncaster Match

8 November 2013

David Flitcroft's side are eager to get on the pitch on Saturday against Doncaster Rovers as Barnsley look to continue their three match unbeaten run.

Looking back on last Friday's match against Ipswich, the last seven days and ahead to Saturday, the manager gave his thoughts on how everything is going.

"Playing on Friday last week certainly has helped us as it allowed the players to have Saturday and Sunday off to recover.

"The main area of concern is with Jacob Mellis. He could be out between two to four weeks. He has rolled his ankle and damaged his ligaments. Danny Rose has a similar injury but it is more severe and he will be out for four weeks.

"Apart from that we have had a brilliant training week.

"For those who haven't been playing a lot the International break gives us the opportunity to fill their programme and make sure in that week we can get a couple of games lined up.

"We've had a settled team so eight, nine, ten of the players have had a lot of game time, but equally there are as many players who have not had much game time and it is important that if players are called upon they are ready.

"Jim O'Brien's performance on Friday at Ipswich was outstanding. In the two and a half years I have been here it's the best I've seen Jim perform. He's got back into the team through injury and he has stepped up to the task with a great performance.

"Luke Steele has had a set-back. He trained with the first team on Tuesday and Thursday but looks like we will have to send him off to a specialist and see where we are on Monday.

"The Doncaster match is a key game and we are really looking forward to. The training ground has been buzzing and we can't wait to get out there. A positive result will build extra momentum to go down to Millwall with.

"Doncaster Rovers have got quality with the likes of Theo Robinson up front and Chris Brown. Cotterill and Duffy are good players and they have quality going forward. They will miss Rob Jones, he's a leader on the pitch and there's not many of them about now."
