Danny's Gillingham Reaction

23 August 2014

Reds Manager Danny Wilson caught up with Barnsley Player after his side's 4-1 victory over Gillingham.

"The three points are very important in front of your home fans," said Wilson. We want to make it a difficult place to come for opposition teams and I think we did that today.

"We pressed the ball well. We showed a great determination in which to get ourselves in front.

"At first we were a little bit pedestrian, we needed some tempo in the game. But once we did, there was no looking back and we, obviously, deserved the points."

Brad Abbott made his senior debut in the middle of the park and completed a very steady and impressive 90 minutes.

"He's been one of the bright sparks from pre-season," added Wilson. "With James (Bailey) missing, he was the first replacement we thought of because of the type of player he is.

"He did ever so well. The fact that we won in his first game will be a day to remember for him."

Conor Hourihane, Sam Winnall, Dale Jennings and Devante Cole got the goals - with Jennings and Cole scoring after springing from the bench in the second half.

"They've (cole and Jennings) done absolutely brilliant," added Wilson. "Coming into the team they offer a different dynamic. They stretch teams out and are able to hurt them. It was terrific as it gave another threat and a difficult decision from Gillingham's point of view and how to keep them at bay."

Watch out for the full interview on Barnsley Player later.
