Danny Wilson's MK Dons Reaction

13 September 2014

Reds Manager Danny Wilson gave his thoughts following today's 5-3 defeat at home to MK Dons.

"I'm quite calm really, if I'm honest," said Wilson. "Being 5-0 down was a conundrum as to why in terms of our defensive work, because we're better than that.

"The four or five mistakes we've made - we've been punished for. At the same time you've got to hold your hand up to the good finishing that they produced and they're a good side.

"I think after 20-25 minutes, we more than matched them and should possibly have been in the lead on a couple of occasions.

"Because we don't score at certain times, it shouldn't make us vulnerable at the back.

"The second goal just on half time was a real blow, really. Other than that we can see what we can work on quite blatantly.

"The defending at times wasn't tight enough and the ball retention up front wasn't good enough. There are things we can put right, there's no doubt about it.

"Collectively we've got to look at what we can do better as a team. Individual mistakes happen but they shouldn't always cost you.

"If you get a result like this in the season and it makes you better, we'll take it. We've got to take this on the chin. We'll learn from it

"There's no throwing of tea cups because this is a learning process."

Conor Hourihane took his tally to five for the season with two more spectacular strikes before Devante Cole pulled it back to 5-3.

Speaking of Conor, Wilson added "He's had a fantastic start but I'm not amazed at the goals he's scored because that's the quality he's got.

"I don't think it's about Conor, he's a type of lad who can feel proud of what he's done but he'll be disappointed with the result."
