Crowley, Jackson & Wilkinson Called Up as Johnson Looks to Bradford

5 October 2015

The Reds will be without Dan Crowley, Simeon Jackson and Conor Wilkinson this week as the trio have been called up for international duty.

Crowley (England U19s), Jackson (Canada) and Wilkinson (Ireland U21s) will miss tomorrow night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash at Bradford as well as the visit of Crewe in the League on Saturday.

“It maybe gives an opportunity for one of our young players to come in,” said Johnson, speaking to the press this morning. “Either that’s off the bench or a start, to see how they do. We need to refresh and be able to rest people.

“We’ve managed our schedule quite well so far and haven’t had too many injuries. Our players are fit and ready so we can go into the next two games with good opportunities to get results.”

And, after the late defeat to Doncaster on Saturday, Johnson said his side need to “take it on the chin and move on” ahead of another Yorkshire derby in the space of three days.

On the JPT as a competition and the match itself, Johnson was keen to show that his side would be taking every minute of it seriously.

“I think it’s a good competition,” Johnson stated. “This area is a tough one, League One is mainly Northern based. We want to do well as we are a big club in the division and it would be amazing to give the fans a trip to Wembley.

“We will impose our game on them and play our football quickly but effectively. We must have our creative players at the top of their game, if we do that well we will win the game. If we don’t, they will look to impose their game on us, but this is the sort of game we need to win.”
