Barton Town Old Boys v Barnsley XI: Full Time

25 July 2015

A very young Barnsley side travelled to North Lincolnshire to face Barton. Paul Heckingbottom’s youthful team were beaten 1-0 thanks to a late goal but did not leave totally disheartened.

The first half was extremely uneventful and no shots on target were registered from either side. At half time three changes were made by The Reds but still no breakthrough could be found.

It was late on in the match that the hosts took the lead following a mistake from goalkeeper Jack Walton, after he miskicked from a back pass. This left striker Scott Phillips with an open goal and he finished easily to give the home side the win.

Reserve team manager Paul Heckingbottom remained positive despite the defeat and said, “It was a difficult pitch but we did try to pass the ball. We competed physically against a bigger and stronger team, but the goal was just a freak incident.

The lads worked well on set pieces considering we are not the biggest of sides. We are trying hard to work on different routines.”

Barnsley XI Squad: Dibble (GK), Walton (GK), Jeffs, Cowgill, Scott, Hanna, Reilly, Templeton, Abbott, Drennan, Alton, Maxwell, Carneiro, Chippendale.
