Barnsley v Leyton Orient: Danny Wilson's 1,000th Match in the Dugout

18 December 2014

Barnsley Manager Danny Wilson will take to the dugout this weekend for the 1,000th time in his career.

The 54-year-old will celebrate the milestone back where it all started, in the Oakwell technical area, for the visit of Leyton Orient this weekend.

His first match as the boss was as Player-Manager of the Reds - a 2-1 victory over Derby County, thanks to a brace from Andy Rammell on August 13th, 1994.

As well as Oakwell, Wilson's managerial career has taken him to Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City, MK Dons, Hartlepool United, Swindon and Sheffield United.

Speaking to the press ahead of this weekend's match, Wilson said, "It’s come round very, very quickly. At my age, I didn’t expect to get a thousand games in at this stage.

"I’m proud and very privileged to get to this stage.

"It’s down to people giving their great support and having trust and belief in me over a period of time."
