Barnsley Sign Worcester City's George Williams

22 December 2014

Worcester City defender George Williams has today joined Barnsley Football after the two Clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

The right-back has put pen to paper on an 18-month contract which runs until 30th June, 2016.

Speaking minutes after signing at Oakwell, the 21-year-old said, "It hasn't really sunk in to be honest. I'm absolutely delighted to be here.

"I only heard about the interest a couple of days ago and now I'm here, so it's been a bit of a whirlwind."

Williams spent two years as a scholar with MK Dons before leaving for Loughborough University to play in the Midlands Alliance league.

The Worcester City’s Management Team of Carl Heeley and Matt Gardiner spotted Williams’ potential and in his second season the right-back played a part in Conference North outfit's remarkable FA Cup run which ended in dramatic fashion last week at home to Scunthorpe United.

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped me at Worcester. They’re a good team and are going places.

"I'm only 21 so still quite young," he continued. "I'm eager and determined. I'd like to think I can provide assists by going forward. I'm really looking forward to working hard on the training ground and pushing myself to get a start in the team.”
