U18s | PREVIEW: Birmingham City vs Barnsley

20 January 2017

Reds travel to Birmingham City tomorrow in search of their first win of 2017.

Barnsley Under 18s are looking to end their seven-game winless run in the Professional Development League when they travel to Birmingham City Under 18s tomorrow morning.

Chris Howarth and Martin Devaney's Reds are going in search of the sixth victory of the season, but have been without a win since beating Huddersfield Town 4-2 in November.

On the road, Barnsley have only suffered two defeats all season, the second of those coming last time out against table topping Nottingham Forest.

When the two sides met earlier in the season, a closely contested affair was edged 3-2 by the Reds. Sham Bertie won it ten minutes from time for the Reds with Louis Wardle and Will Smith also on the scoresheet.

Injuries and call-ups to the Under 23s side hit the squad last week, but the Reds will be hopeful of naming a near full-strength squad for tomorrow's trip to the Midlands.

Victory for the Reds could move them up to seventh in the Northern half of the table if results go there way against the Blues.

They are also looking to complete a domestic double against the Blues for the first time in the Professional Development League.

Birmingham by comparison are rock bottom of the table with just two wins to their name, losing three of their last four matches in all competitions.

They will take some confidence from the fact their second league victory of the season came in a 2-1 win at Bolton Wanderers last weekend.

However, they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup earlier this week.

Birmingham's home form is something the Reds will be hoping to capitalise on as the Blues have managed only two wins on their own turf since December 2015.

But prior to the meeting between the two sides earlier this season, Birmingham had not lost any of the previous five encounters against Barnsley, winning two and drawing three.

Kick off for tomorrow's fixture is at 11am at Birmingham's Wast Hills training ground.
