SCOWEN: "Together We Can Turn Our Form Around."

1 December 2016

The Reds midfielder spoke with the assembled media today at Oakwell..

Josh was first asked about last Friday night and how he felt the game went against Nottingham Forest at Oakwell. He acknowledged the difficulties the Reds faced on the night but felt it wasn't a fair reflection of how the side performs on a regular basis.

"It was a difficult night" he said. "We didn't get much given to be fair, and I don't think we were that bad really, we started very bright but I think we went away from our game and what we're good at. All of their goals really were our mistakes and defensively we weren't great.

"We were off our game and we got punished and at the end of it it was quite embarrassing to be fair. The boys certainly felt that way afterwards. But we're big enough and strong enough to move on and take it, and then we go again and try getting the three points on Saturday."

Scowen reckons the result was a freak one, an anomaly in the Reds season but admits that at Championship level you can't afford to be off your game and making mistakes so often because talented players will punish you accordingly.

"Look at Henri Lansbury. I think he had three shots and scored three goals. So we need to be more ruthless like that ourselves. It's not like we aren't creating chances. And as we've seen already through the season we've got the players to hurt other teams.

"I think we're doing fairly well up here. It's the first time many of us have played in this division so I think we're coping okay with it. It's just that ruthlessness in both boxes I think, we need to get it right at both ends."

The live-wire midfielder is quick to explain that he's always learning and that playing against players of quality can only help in his own development. He also feels that he's enjoying himself, testing himself in a division higher up.

"The last year has been a real rollercoaster. I've enjoyed it. I've realised that at this level though you have more time on the ball. In League One everything often got scrappy, it was really fast and frenzied. But we're all young and learning and if we all stay together we can turn this form around.

"The boys are always positive, there's no heads down or anything. You've only to look at last season and how we dug deep, it's how we got here now. But there's strong characters in the changing room and we're more than good enough to get ourselves out of this little run."

Josh says that the turnaround of last season is the obvious place to look for optimism. Last year the Reds showed that anything is possible, although Scowen isn't predicting a change in fortunes so incredible this time around!

"We can easily turn this around" he stated. "Look at last season. I'm not saying we're going to get promoted to the Premier League or anything, but then we're not exactly stuck at the bottom this time are we? The performances have been good for the majority of the season, but results aren't falling.

"We're looking forward as a group to going down to Birmingham on Saturday and getting a positive result."
