Scowen Pleased With Premier League Work Outs.

26 July 2016

Josh Scowen is confident the Reds can maintain their form from the end of last season and use it to make a fast start to the 2016/17 season.

After tough tests against Hull City tonight and Everton on Saturday, the midfielder thinks the Reds have shown they are more than capable of stepping up a division.

He hopes they can continue to ride the wave of last season's success and make Oakwell a fortress.

“We showed tonight against a Premier League team we can cut it, we just need to cut out little mistakes and we’ll try and pick up where we left off last season.

“The buzz is still there from last season and hopefully we can keep that going.”

Following an excellent performance the Reds earned a 2-2 draw with Premier League Hull City and Scowen feels there are a lot of positive elements to pick out from their performances.

He wants the side to learn from their experiences in the last two games in order to make a solid start to the new season.

“It was a good workout, we conceded two sloppy goals but on the whole there was a lot of positives, including scoring two goals against Premier League opposition which we’ll take forward into the league.

“We just need to cut out the sloppy bits and we’ll go into the season positive and confident. We’re getting goals and if we cut out mistakes we’ll be fine.

“We had some chances, Tom scored two good goals but I think we looked good in the 90 minutes.

“All our strikers have given the gaffer something to think about and hopefully they can carry on their form in the new season.

“I think both of the last two games have been good tests. We’ll learn more from those as opposed to the non-league sides we faced before."

The central midfielder hopes he has done enough in pre-season to put himself in contention for a starting place against Ipswich but admits that all Paul Heckingbottom’s midfield options add something different to the side. He hopes he can give the Head Coach even more of a selection headache with a strong showing this weekend against Peterborough United.

Scowen added: “I think I’ve done well throughout pre-season and I’ve got one more game to show what I can do in central midfield and I’ll do my best to try and cement my place for Ipswich.”
