Scowen: "We can go to Leeds and get all three points!"

29 September 2016

Josh Scowen spoke to the assembled media this morning ahead of this weekend's Yorkshire derby against Leeds United.

After a Man of the Match performance in the midweek draw against Aston Villa at Oakwell, the Reds midfielder was quick to highlight the boost that display had given the players considering the clubs were two divisions apart last season.

He said: “They were a big Premier League club and they have lots of big-name players really whereas most of us have never even played in the Championship so for us to come away with a point, and it maybe should have been three in the end then we have to be happy with our display I think.”

The Reds squad might lack experience at this level but Scowen feels the experiences of last season and everything the players went through both as individuals and as a collective has helped in terms of the adaptation to Championship football and thus contributed to the start made so far.

“It all comes back to last season I think, how it started for us and how it ended in promotion, I think the buzz is still around. We’ve then brought in more good lads, good quality players as well and that’s been a boost for us too.

“As everyone has seen so far we’ve mixed it with the big boys. So long as we keep playing like that, keep performing as we have been doing and working hard then everything should come good again for us.”

This weekend’s short trip up the M1 to Leeds and Elland Road will be a mouthwatering occasion for the Reds supporters and Josh says he and the players are under no illusions as to the magnitude of the fixture and what it would mean to the fanbase should the Reds emerge victorious.

“First and foremost it would give us a massive boost and obviously it would be a very good day for the fans! We know it’s a massive game, we know we have to be on it from the first whistle and if we do that then hopefully we can get that win.

“After Tuesday’s result we’re all feeling confident and we feel like we can go to Leeds and get all three points. If we do then we can go into the International break knowing we’ve had a great start to the season.”
