U18s | REPORT: Huddersfield Town 2-4 Barnsley

12 November 2016

Louis Rowe scores four as the Reds produce a complete performance to defeat their Yorkshire rivals!

A four goal haul for Barnsley forward Louis Rowe helped Barnsley Under 18s to a 4-2 victory in this morning's Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town Under 18s.

The mercurial striker slotted home his first seven minutes in after racing onto Romal Palmer's beautifully weighted pass and doubled his tally just before the half hour following a defensive mix-up.

Rowe completed his hat trick three minutes before the break, combining with Palmer again to fire home before Cedwyn Scott pulled a goal back for the hosts.

Two fine Jake Greatorex saves prevented Huddersfield from pulling another goal back and from one of those saves, a flowing move saw Palmer feed Rowe for his fourth of the game.

Rarmani Edmonds-Green pulled another goal back six minutes from time but Chris Howarth and Martin Devaney's side held on for a well deserved win.

After a perfectly observed minute's silence by both sets of players, coaches and supporters, the Reds set about making an early breakthrough.

A quiet opening period soon sprung into life as Palmer played in Rowe and the latter steered the ball past Owen Burke with a little help from the inside of the post.

Huddersfield's Denilson Carvalho was causing the Reds defence some problems but a block from Adam Lund and excellent closing down from Will Smith prevented the attacker from troubling Jake Greatorex.

Kane Swinburn scampered clear down the right wing before cutting inside and testing Brooke with a powerful effort at his near post midway through the half.

On 28 minutes, Rowe bagged a deserved second for the Reds. Wilberforce Ocran's hopeful flick forward led to a breakdown in communication between Brooke and his defender, allowing Rowe to nip in and score.

Smith turned Louis Wardle's corner just past the post following excellent interplay from Sham Bertie and Mo Saeed as the Reds went in search of a third goal.

It came three minutes before the break when Palmer and Rowe combined once again, with the latter showing good strength and a cool head to complete his hat trick after another well-played through ball from Palmer.

Cedwyn Scott pulled a goal back for Huddersfield just before the break as he turned home Harry Clibbens' cross.

HALF TIME: Huddersfield Town 1-3 Barnsley

Jake Greatorex, who had been called into the team after Arron Murphy fell ill in the warm up, made a smart save to deny Scott early in the second half before Adam Lund struck the crossbar from Wardle's free kick.

Lund then produced a world class block to prevent Scott with Greatorex making another superb save to stop the Huddersfield forward.

From that saved, the Reds launched another counter attack and Palmer fed Rowe for his, and Barnsley's fourth goal of the game.

The Reds were forced to play the final seven minutes with 10 men as Swinburn limped off injured and the Terriers made their man advantage count as Edmonds-Green swept home from 25 yards.

But there was to be no comeback as the Reds held out for a well deserved win against the Terriers.
