Norman Rimmington’s Funeral Arrangements Confirmed.

5 January 2017

Fans are invited to pay their respects to ‘Mr Barnsley’ as his funeral procession passes by Oakwell on Thursday 12th January.

Following discussions with Norman Rimmington’s family, Barnsley Football Club can now confirm his funeral arrangements as we say goodbye to a true Club legend who sadly passed away last week at the age of 93.

Rimmo’s funeral will take place on Thursday 12th January, with a church service to be held at All Saints Church in Darton, followed by a ceremony at Barnsley Crematorium. A remembrance gathering will then be held at the home of Barnsley Football Club in the Legends Suite. Due to predicted high numbers at the funeral, there will be a sound system outside the church where anyone gathered will be able to hear the service taking place.

Due to the extremely limited space available at all three venues, the family have kindly requested that the funeral service is reserved solely for family members, friends, Rimmo’s former colleagues and teammates. The family fully appreciate that Reds fans far and wide would like to come and pay their respects to Rimmo and are very grateful for your kind words and support at this difficult time.

Fans are invited to show their appreciation to Rimmo and say goodbye as his funeral procession passes by Grove Street at approximately 2:15pm on the day of the funeral. We hope as many fans as possible are able to come down to Oakwell and say goodbye to a truly special man who dedicated his life to the Club.

For fans wishing to pay their respects by laying flowers at Oakwell, an area has now been designated in front of the South Stand (to the left of the Reds Superstore) where they can be placed. A book of condolence has now also been opened up in the Reds Superstore and fans are invited to sign it and leave messages of condolence.

Since the sad news broke last week, tributes for Norman have been pouring in and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has sent in messages of condolence. The response has been overwhelming and both the Club and Norman’s family are thoroughly grateful.

Any of Norman’s friends, former colleagues and teammates requiring further information on the funeral arrangements should e-mail thereds@barnsleyfc.co.uk or telephone 01226 211 182.
