Janko: "We Have To Keep The Momentum Going!"

12 September 2016

New signing Saidy Janko spoke to the media this morning about his arrival at Oakwell and his plans for the season.

The Swiss Under 21 International joined The Reds late on deadline day, as Paul Heckingbottom’s final deal of a busy transfer window but Saidy felt it was a fairly simple move for him to make.

“It went quite quick to be fair, I heard of the interest from Barnsley on the Wednesday I think and it was easy for me to decide. It’s Championship football, I’ve heard good things about the manager and the Club and them wanting young players, so yes it was simple.

“At my age the only way to improve is to be playing games and proving myself. The Gaffer here wants a young group, I like the project here. My goal is to be a much better player at the end of the season.”

The former Manchester United youngster doesn’t believe he’s stepping down in levels despite leaving the Scottish Champions for Oakwell.

“Celtic is a huge club always fighting for the title but I think the Championship is more competitive, the football down here is more competitive, every team wants to get to the Premier League. You only have to look at the Swansea versus Chelsea game yesterday to see how close the games are.”

Being involved for Switzerland at International level is something Janko enjoys.

“Playing for my country is very important to me, it’s not a distraction, it’s nice to see the lads from back home and it’s a change which I think can be positive, so yes it’s important.”

Joining a side flying high in the league and full of confidence is something he’s excited about and whilst he’s aware of the talent at Hecky’s disposal, he has the self-confidence to force his way into the managers plans.

“Everywhere you go there’s going to be competition, but I’m confident otherwise I wouldn’t be here! I know it’s been an unbelievable start for the Club and we have to keep that momentum going. I’m capable of playing in two positions but I’m happy to play anywhere the Gaffer wants me to play. I’m excited to get started now!”
