Hecky's Huddersfield Reaction.

20 August 2016

A disappointed Paul Heckingbottom spoke to the media following the 2-1 defeat against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.

Jonathan Hogg scored in stoppage time to give the Terriers all three points on an afternoon where both sides could have taken the win.

Heckingbottom said, “It was a game of two halves, I was disappointed how we performed first half. The effort was there but the intensity wasn’t. With the ball we let ourselves down and didn’t retain possession up top and we didn’t capitalise on any counter-attacking opportunities. I felt we had three real good ones that we should have scored from.”

Hecky continued, “Second half we imposed ourselves on the game and caused them problems and that’s why we’re disappointed to come away with nothing.”

The Reds Head Coach was asked if Huddersfield having a longer time to recover from their last match compared to the Reds, was a factor in the defeat.

“Yeah, it always does.” He said. “It’s statistically proven that those extra days make a difference. But, if you go into a game with that sort of mind-set you set yourself up to fail so we don’t do that, the players don’t. It’s just a case of how do we win this game and we had to do that at half-time. Again, we just had to set out right to go and attack the second half.”

Heckingbottom finished by praising Huddersfield Town on the goals they scored to win the match.

“It was two fantastic finishes from them, that’s what we expect in this league. We know we’re up against teams that can do that.”
